What is a CPG pricing simulator?

A CPG pricing simulator is a decision-grade tool that models how consumers respond to price changes before you make them in market. NextMinder's pricing simulators combine category baselines with your proprietary data to predict volume impact, revenue optimization, and competitive response—turning what used to take months of test-and-learn into hours of simulation.

How do you forecast a new product launch?

NextMinder's launch simulators predict Year 1 volume by modeling trial, repeat, and source of volume before you spend on production or marketing. Unlike traditional concept tests that give you purchase intent scores, our simulators show you exactly where volume will come from—category growth, competitive switching, or cannibalization of your own portfolio.

What is source of volume analysis?

Source of volume analysis answers the critical question: where will my new product's sales come from? NextMinder's simulators decompose predicted volume into three buckets: category expansion (new buyers), competitive switching (taken from rivals), and cannibalization (taken from your own products). This helps CPG teams right-size launch investments and avoid portfolio conflicts.

How is NextMinder different from traditional market research?

Traditional research takes 8 weeks and $50K+ per study—by the time you have answers, the market has moved. NextMinder builds persistent simulators calibrated to your category that deliver decision-grade answers in hours. Your data makes these simulators exclusively yours; competitors can't access them.

What is portfolio optimization for CPG?

Portfolio optimization uses simulation to find the ideal mix of products, pack sizes, and price points that maximizes total portfolio revenue while minimizing cannibalization. NextMinder's simulators let you test hundreds of portfolio scenarios—adding SKUs, delisting underperformers, adjusting price gaps—before committing resources.

Can NextMinder model price elasticity?

Yes. NextMinder's pricing simulators calculate price elasticity at the SKU, brand, and category level. More importantly, we model cross-elasticity—how your price changes affect competitor products and vice versa—so you can anticipate competitive response and optimize prices across your entire portfolio.

What is synthetic data in simple terms?

Synthetic data is AI-generated information that behaves like real data but contains no actual individual records. In market research, this means simulating how consumers would respond to questions or make decisions—without surveying real people.

Is synthetic data accurate enough for business decisions?

Yes, when properly calibrated. Leading platforms achieve 95%+ correlation with actual market outcomes. The key is validation: synthetic data providers should demonstrate accuracy against real results, not just claim it.

How is synthetic data different from made-up data?

Synthetic data is generated by AI models trained on millions of real data points. It preserves statistical patterns and relationships from real data while containing no actual individual records. It's simulation based on evidence, not fabrication.

What are synthetic respondents?

Synthetic respondents are AI-generated consumer profiles that can 'answer' survey questions or 'make' purchase decisions based on patterns learned from real consumer behavior. They represent plausible consumer responses, not real individuals.

Is synthetic data legal and ethical?

Yes. Synthetic data contains no personally identifiable information (PII) and doesn't require informed consent because no real individuals are involved. It's often preferred for privacy-sensitive applications.

How do companies validate synthetic data accuracy?

The gold standard is holdout validation: run synthetic predictions, then compare to actual market outcomes (sales data, real survey results). Look for providers who publish their validation methodology and accuracy metrics.

What industries use synthetic data for market research?

CPG (consumer packaged goods), retail, financial services, and healthcare are leading adopters. Any industry that needs fast, iterative consumer insights benefits from synthetic data.

Can synthetic data replace focus groups?

Not entirely. Synthetic data excels at quantitative questions (pricing, volume forecasting, scenario testing) but doesn't capture the qualitative richness of human conversation. Most organizations use both.

What is Synthetic Organic Parity (SOP)?

SOP measures how closely synthetic data results match real-world outcomes. An SOP of 95% means synthetic predictions correlate 95% with actual market data—sufficient for confident business decisions.

What is the difference between synthetic data and traditional surveys?

Traditional research asks 'What do consumers say?' through surveys that take 6-8 weeks and cost $50K+. Synthetic simulation asks 'What will consumers do?' and delivers answers in hours. Synthetic data enables unlimited scenario testing; traditional research is one-shot and expensive to redo.
